The purpose of this dataset is to provide a cartographic representation of the Ecologically Sensitive Waterbodies, as indicated by Regulation No. 2 of the Arkansas Pollution Control And Ecology Commission. Regulation No. 2 sets forth standards to enhance the quality of the water resources of the State of Arkansas. The Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality abides by the rules and standards set forth in this regulation. Waters that have a designated use of Ecologically Sensitive Waterbodies (ESW) identifies segments known to provide habitat within the existing range of threatened, endangered or endemic species of aquatic or semi-aquatic life forms.
This data includes streams of Arkansas that have been designated as Ecologically Sensitive Waterbodies, as indicated by Regulation No. 2 of the Arkansas Pollution Control And Ecology Commission. It consists of a subset of the stream segments from the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) Medium Resolution (1:100,000) Flowline.
