The purpose of this dataset is to provide a cartographic representation of the Ecologically Sensitive Waterbodies, as indicated by Regulation No. 2 adopted by the Arkansas Pollution Control And Ecology Commission. This beneficial use identifies segments known to provide habitat within the existing range of threatened, endangered or endemic species of aquatic or semi-aquatic life forms. Regulation No. 2 sets forth standards to enhance the quality, value and beneficial uses of the water resources of the State of Arkansas, to aid in the prevention, control and abatement of water pollution, to provide for the protection and propagation of fish and wildlife and to provide for recreation in and on the water. The Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality abides by the rules and standards set forth in this regulation.
This data includes springs and seeps of Arkansas that have been designated as Ecologically Sensitive Waterbodies, as indicated by Regulation No. 2 adopted by the Arkansas Pollution Control And Ecology Commission. It consists of a subset of the stream segments from the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) Medium Resolution (1:100,000) Flowline. This dataset originated from the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission (ANHC).
